WARNING!

Use a manual screwdriver when installing or removing a hard drive.

Use a grounded anti-static mat and wrist band to ground yourself before servicing the recorder.

Failure to follow these warnings will void your warranty.

Caution!

We recommend installing hard drives before installing the recorder or powering it up for the first time.

Otherwise, shut down the recorder and unplug the power cable. Unplug all other cabling and remove the recorder from the rack.

Remove the cover screws

Remove the three small screws from the top edge of the rear panel.

Remove the cover

Gently slide the cover about an inch to the rear of the unit, then lift it up. Set it aside where it won’t get scratched.

Toward the front of the recorder are the mounting bars, two ventilated strips of metal. If a hard drive is already installed, disconnect the SATA and power cables from that hard drive.

Remove the side screws

Remove the two black screws that hold the mounting bar in place. They are on the exterior of the unit, one on each side of the recorder.

Remove the mounting bar

Caution: Sharp internal edges. Handle with care when removing and replacing the mounting bar.

Remove the mounting bar by lifting the side toward the rear of the recorder, then pulling the entire bar away from the front. Detach the power cable from the mounting bar by removing the strap that keeps it in place.

Arrange the HDDs

Lay the new hard drives to be installed side by side on a flat surface with the power and SATA ports facing the same direction and the circuit board on top.

Place the mounting bar on top of the drives; ensure the new drives face the same direction as any pre-installed drive.

Check orientation

If you removed the old hard drive(s), look at the side of the mounting bar. On the bar, verify that the mounting bar's vertical groove is on the side with the hard drives' SATA ports and toward the rear of the recorder.

Secure and label the drives

Line up the holes in the mounting bar over the drives, then use four of the screws supplied with the recorder to secure each drive in place.

Use a permanent marker to number each of the drive bays in case you replace a hard drive at a later date.

Reinstall the mounting bars

Insert the front of the mounting bar by angling it downward and sliding it over the notches in the support pegs, then set the rear end of the bar down.

Re-install the screws on the outside left and right of the case to lock the mounting bars in place.

Connect the hard drives

Use the extra SATA cables provided with the recorder to connect each hard drive to the mother board in the correct order. Looking at the recorder from the front of the unit, the SATA ports are labeled SATA1, SATA2, etc., from left to right.

Once the SATA cables are connected, attach the power cable to each hard drive. Unlike the SATA cables, the power cable jumpers have no fixed order.

Replace the cover

Replace the cover in position, and secure it with the three screws on the rear of the unit.
